The Golden Globes night brought along some expected awards, some unexpected winners, censored speeches and a rainbow of colours on the red carpet.
The Golden Globes Awards were hosted by The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and they were presented by Ricky Gervais.
The night had no great surprises, in fact the awards followed, with little exception Critics’ Choise Awards, that took place on January 12.
George Clooney owned the night, collecting the award for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in The Descendants, which also won Best Drama.
Revelation of the year, The Artist, French black-and-white film, won three awards, including Best Comedy or Musical Film, Best original Score and Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical Film for Jean Dujardin.
Maybe a surprise it has been the award for Meryl Streep who won Best Actress in a Drama for the portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, in the Iron Lady. Even if the actress has some competition, Meryl Streep add a new award to the many that she owns. It was Streep’s seventh Golden Globe win.
One of the great directors in Hollywood, Marin Scorsese, received a standing ovation from the audience after he won best director for his movie Hugo.
Christopher Plummer won a Golden Globe Award dor Best Supporting Actor in Beginners, and Octavia Spencer won Best Supporting Actress in The Help. Both of the actors received award from Critics’ Choise Awards last week.
Woody Allen got himself an award for Best Screenplay (Midnights in Paris) even if in this category the competition was really tight, but the Foreign Press Asociation preferred to award the veteran Woody Allen.
Madonna won Best Original Song for Masterpiece, a song from the movie she directed W.E. Best Animated Feature Film award went to the movie The Adventures of Tintin.
The host, Ricky Gervais had this year too his memorable jests. Remember the last year and all the criticism he has taken especially after dropping on stage the F-word.
Look at just an example: “It’s so good having a job where you can get drunk and say what you want. And they still pay me.”
