Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness, characterized by enhanced capacity for response to suggestion.

According to Hypnotherapy Abu Dhabi, what occurs during hypnosis is explained in theory as follows:

  • Altered state theories see hypnosis as an altered state of mind or trance, marked by a level of awareness different from the ordinary conscious state.
  • Non-state theories see hypnosis as a form of imaginative role-enactment.

A person in hypnosis is focused and concentrated and most often this happens intensely on a specific memory and responds in an uncritical, automatic way, ignoring all the aspects of the environment, other than those pointed out to him by the hypnotist. Also, the people which are being hypnotized are said to show an increased response to suggestions.

Hypnosis: How it works?

We can say that hypnosis is an agreed upon suggestion which is explicitly intended to make use of our natural born abilities. The clientwhen in hypnosis experiences heightened sensory perception. They see, feel, smell and hear things at an enhanced level. The client’s mind becomes relaxed and they are able to become more aware of the solutions to their problems in life. They become naturally more creative and are able to form new ideas, and can use their mind more efficiently.

Hypnosis is normally preceded by a “hypnotic induction” technique which is interpreted as a method of guiding the client into a “hypnotic trance”. The hypnotic induction involves a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions.

Hypnosis is also a way to block out sources of distraction and it’s often being used by psychologists to relax the patient and this procedure is known as “hypnotherapy” because it has a therapeutic purpose such as treating depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sleep disorders, compulsive gaming, and posttraumatic stress and so on.
Hypnosis is also used as a form of entertainment especially in magic shows, when the magician is doing this to his assistant, for the enjoyment of the audience. In this case the procedure is not real and, it is known as “stage hypnosis”.
